The Chinese government is working hard to conserve energy whilst still developing a robust economy. From 1980 to 2000, China's energy consumption growth was halve its economic growth, but this positive trend has since deteriorated. The article explores some of the econonmic and energy consumption patterns and methods that are being explored to improve China's sustainable energy consumption.
The paper notes the Chinese government's commitment because "...the sustainable development of energy is closely related to the overall situation of China's economic and social sustainable development."
This makes this a timely reminder for other governments and industry leaders, that sustainable development will not happen with the waving of a magic wand. What this article clearly demonstrates is that sustainable development is like raising a child, one needs to be paying ongoing attention and tweaking one's parenting strategies to ensure the child develops in a positive and resilient adult.
