Once upon a time, taxes were seen as good and there for the benefit of the broader community (in the days before the purposes of tax were only to fund military machines, feed fat cats, and control the masses). While governments might be abdicating their responsibilities to future generations, some businesses are remembering that they are interdependent with the community and environment. So far more than 300 US companies have joined the effort to pay 1 percent of their net revenue to organisations that promote conservation and preservation.
There are times in history where the future is recreated by embracing a new paradigm. That paradigm does not have to come with the blessing of the powers-that-be, but there are times when the future for our great grandchildren rests in each and every one of our own decision making. As individuals, as leaders, as entrepreneurs, each and every one of us has the choice on whether we are contributing to a sustainable future for the generations to follow.
Will we go down in history as a generation who broke the yoke of dependency on violence for civility? Will we be a generation that eschewed unmitigated greed and rose to the call to allocate monies to sustainablity, true justice and "paying our dues". We will be the generation that comes to understand that narcissm leads to parasites who demand the world whilst reducing everything to dust.
Such narcissm is never satisfied, can never have enough. The only cure for such narcissm is to pull in the reins on unmitigated greed and power lust. It's time for tough love.
